Berlin’s subway railcars F74/76/79, Delivery: 2010-2019

Altogether 91 large-profile double railcars, series F74/76 and F79, operated by the Berlin transit authority Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), are being completely refurbished between 2010 and 2019 (option) and given a new microprocessor traction controller to replace the cam switchgear, a new static inverter for the 110-V DC onboard power system, a new heating controller and new door controls in place of the existing programmable controller for which parts were no longer available.

Philadelphia Metro Orange Line, Delivery: 2008-2010

The complete fleet of 136 Metro Orange Line B-IV railcars operated by SEPTA, Philadelphia, have between 2006 and 2010 been fitted with new IGBT DC choppers to replace the existing switchgear including controllers.

Refurbishment of traction systems for Berlin, Delivery: 2007

The refurbishment of the traction system on the small-profile double railcars for the Berlin subway, GI/1E. The Berlin transit authority (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, BVG) operates Germany’s biggest subway network which is subdivided into a large-profile network extending 100.6 km with more recent lines and a small-profile one of 43.6 km comprising older lines.

Historic vehicles for Linz’s Pöstling mountain railway, Delivery: 2007

For the three heritage-protected dual-axle vehicles of the world’s steepest adhesion railway (average grade 10.7 percent measured over the length), Vossloh Kiepe furnished the town of Linz, Austria, in 2009/2010 with the three-phase traction system, the onboard power supply and the remaining electrical equipment.

Refurbishing Bremen’s GT8N trams, Delivery: 2005-2007

For more than 50 years, Bremen’s local tramway authority (Bremer Strassenbahn AG, BSAG) has been a customer of Düsseldorf-based Vossloh Kiepe. During this period, over 240 trams have been kitted out with Kiepe electrical equipment. In December 2002, BSAG placed an order with the Bombardier and Vossloh Kiepe consortium for twenty low-floor articulated railcars along with an option for a further 23 vehicles.

Geneva Be 4/6 and Be 4/8 railcars, Delivery: 2005-2008

For 46 six- and eight-axle tram railcars, Vossloh Kiepe supplied between 2005 and 2008 state-of-the-art IGBT chopper kits retrofitted by the Geneva transport authority TPG to its railcars. To this end, the first traction unit was converted at the Vossloh Kiepe plant to serve for illustrative and training purposes for the remaining units.

German Rail’s vehicle maintenance shop Cottbus (DB AG Cottbus) and Kiepe Elektrik in Düsseldorf have together revamped the electric locomotives EL 2 operated by Lausitzer Braunkohle AG (LAUBAG) in Senftenberg, Germany.

Mülheim/Ruhr light rail vehicles M6-NF C, Delivery: 1998-2000

In order to ensure easier access for mobility-impaired passengers on the existing light rail vehicle fleet operated by the city of Mülheim/Ruhr and consisting of high-floor M-series vehicles, altogether 11 of these were given an additional low-floor center section between 1998 and 2000.

Gotha: Thüringerwaldbahn’s Tatra railcars, Delivery: 1996-1999

For the entire fleet of Tatra KT4D articulated railcars operated by Thüringerwaldbahn and Strassenbahn Gotha, Vossloh Kiepe supplied between 1996 and 1999 completely new electrical equipment installed as a joint effort with the transport authorities’ personnel. Included were a recuperative IGBT DC chopper, a special static onboard power inverter modified for use in these railcars, and new door controls.
