Electro-mechanical Weight Transmitter Kiepe EGM
The Kiepe EGM is an electronic weight transducer that converts spring deflection into voltage and current signals. Loading levels of vehicles, equipped with mechanical spring suspension, can be measured according to the following schematic diagram.
Construction
The electronic weight transducer is built into an aluminium casing mounted to the spring suspension as shown in the above schematic diagram. A lever connected to a shaft converts spring deflection ∆s into a rotary motion.
Function
An oscillator produces an alternating voltage of constant amplitude. The voltage is transferred by means of a coupling coil. The coupling factor is varied by means of a metal tongue. The transferred alternating voltage is proportional to deflection ∆s. The alternating voltage is then rectified, linearized, scaled and shown as voltage (4 ... 10 V) and current (4 ... 20 mA) outputs. The electrical output signals in the measuring range of the stroke, are in linear proportion to the deflection ∆s. For further deflections outside the measuring range ∆s there are no defined signal spectrums.
