High-Voltage Contactor Kiepe HzS
Modern railway cars have many pieces of equipment driven electrically. The range of electric loads includes: heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, lighting, door controls etc.
Heating and air-conditioning equipment have the highest power consumption. These are supplied with high voltage by a train-line from the locomotive. This leads to a requirement for high-voltage switchgear to perform a range of tasks.
For control of heating circuits are required contactors of differing switching frequencies depending upon the heating method employed.
Convection and hot water heating equipment contactors require only a low switching frequency, whereas air-heating and air-conditioning require a much higher switching frequency.
Depending on the use of the vehicles equipment may be single- or multi-voltage. Accordingly the contactors are designed for the following power categories and rated voltages as laid down in UIC:
1 AC 16 2/3 Hz 1000 V/1 AC 50 Hz V/DC 1500 V/DC 3000 V.
