The Vattenfall Europe Mining AG awards an additional modernisation order
Vossloh Kiepe GmbH, Düsseldorf, will be supplying the Deutsche Bahn Instandhaltungs-GmbH, Cottbus, with electrical equipment for six more EL2 electric locomotives.
The locomotives will be used for brown coal open-pit mining. The former Lausitzer Braunkohle AG (now Vattenfall Europe Mining AG) have already had 53 EL2 electric locomotives modernised by the Deutsche Bahn and Vossloh Kiepe.
A locomotive can pull about 16 wagons loaded with coal which together have a joint weight of about 1,600 t. The objective of the modernisation is to safeguard Vattenfall Europe Mining AG‘s brown coal open-pit mining transport processes on a long-term basis in Lusatia. Particular reasons for the purchase decision were the high availability, cost-effectiveness and high degree of comfort in driving and operation.
Vossloh Kiepe will supply and install the following components:
- Two regenerative liquid-cooled 2.4 kV IGBT DC choppers for control of the four traction motors
- 2.4 kV DC circuit breakers
- Liquid-cooled static converter
- Air-conditioned driver’s cab with two operator positions
- Four brake resistors integrated into the bogies
- Adaptation to the slow speed device in the Vattenfall AG (slow speed operation) loading facilities
- Wireless remote control
- On-board information and control system with antiskid protection and double traction
- Vehicle diagnosis
- Vehicle wiring
