The Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft AG orders new tramcars from Vossloh Kiepe and Bombardier
The KVG consolidated its long-standing business relationship with Vossloh Kiepe with a new order for 18 tramcars with an option for 6 additional vehicles.
Bombardier vehicle manufacturers will be providing its modern NGT8
tram, which is equipped with the efficient drive technology from
Vossloh Kiepe. The vehicles have an up to 70 percent low-floor design
and can be used for bidirectional operation.
The renewal of the vehicle fleet and the extension of the line network
beyond the Kassel city limits require the acquisition of new vehicles.
These vehicles have to be compatible with the city’s network of tram
tracks as well as with that of the Regionalbahn Kassel; they must be
able to operate in tunnels.
Until now, approximately 80 vehicles have been in operation in the KVG
network, 22 of which are to be gradually replaced by the new NGT8
Light-rail Vehicles.
As the systems supplier, Vossloh Kiepe is responsible for project
planning, installation and start-up of the electronic equipment. The
scope of delivery includes the traction and vehicle control system, the
complete power transmission, the train safety system, track brakes,
current collectors and static converters. The Düsseldorf specialists
will also supply the air conditioning and temperature control systems,
the integrated vehicle data management as well as video monitoring and
outer, inner and line displays.
Delivery of the first 18 vehicles will begin in November 2011 and is
scheduled to be finished by February 2013. It will then be possible to
exercise an option for an additional 6 vehicles with a delivery time up
to 2013, if applicable.
