Edinburgh: traction kits for 27 trams

Delivery: 2009–2010

Vossloh Kiepe has been awarded for the first time from CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) a contract for the entire traction systems of 27 vehicles. Back in 1871 the city of Edinburgh commissioned its first tram. Many years later in 1956, the last completed its farewell journey. 51 years further on the Scottish parliament on March 15, 2007, resolved to relaunch a new tram line in Edinburgh.

The work has already begun. Responsible for the construction of the network and the vehicles is TIE (Transport Initiatives Edinburgh).
CAF is yet another railway system equipment and component supplier to opt for Vossloh Kiepe who will supply the traction containers, the motors, the brake resistors, and the set-point generators. The 42.8-meter long and 2.65-meter wide 7-part bi-directional trams are driven by 12 motors, combined into sets of two.
