Bremen, Germany

Delivery: 1993-1996

For more than 50 years the Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG) has been a customer with Vossloh Kiepe in Düsseldorf. In this period more than 240 tramcars have been equipped electrically.

This first GTO-PWM-Inverter fed directly from the line and controlled by a microprocessor unit combined with a robust and maintenance-free 3 phase induction motor presents the state of the art.

The first application of this technology in a LRV was in the first prototype low-floor tram GT6N of the transit authority Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG). For this vehicle Kiepe is responsible for design, manufacturing and installation of the electrical and electronical equipment.

Due to the very positive experience with the prototype on its 75.9 km routes BSAG placed an order with Kiepe for the supply of electrical equipment for a series of 78 vehicles, which were delivered from 1993 to 1996. The vehicles are equipped with the data bus system BISS for transmission of information and control data for traction equipment and auxiliary devices. With an IBM compatible personal computer maintenance information, statistical data and fault diagnosis can be read and processed.
